At Microsoft's BUILD Conference today they released Visual Studio Code, a new IDE for developing web and cloud applications. Most interestingly, Visual Studio Code is natively running on Linux!
Microsoft Visual Studio Code is available for free download immediately. Besides having Windows and OS X builds, there's an actual Linux binary! Visual Studio Code can run on Linux and at Microsoft's conference they demoed the Linux version running atop Ubuntu.
Visual Studio Code comes in a 60MB ZIP package for Linux with no distribution-specific packaging at this time. Code for Linux relies on FFmpeg, Chromium, libnotify, gcrypt, and other packages that have been bundled with this new Microsoft IDE.
