Microsoft announced at their 2016 Connect event today they are joining the Linux Foundation.
Microsoft is becoming a Platinum Member of the Linux Foundation -- the highest tier of membership for companies interested in supporting Linux. The platinum members of the Linux Foundation currently include Cisco, Fujitsu, HP Enterprise, Huawei, IBM, Intel, NEC, Oracle, Qualcomm, and Samsung. Becoming a platinum member also earns Microsoft a seat on the Linux Foundation board of directors.
This announcement comes after Microsoft keynoted at LinuxCon earlier this year and the slew of Linux/open-source announcements out of the Redmond company since Satya Nadella took over as CEO.
