Ne znam dal je vest ili nije, ali Ubuntu se sad može skinuti i direktno sa Windows storea i instalirati na windows (kao virtualni os) . Sem njega još dve distribucije su dostupne na isti način.

Pisalo se ovdje o tome pred neko vrijeme, ali tada nije bilo dostupno u Windows Storeu, radi se o CLI alatima, nema desktopa iako su neki zaobilazno i to omogućili, to je najviše korisno za developere koji rade na Windowsima, ali ponekad imaju potrebu za Linuxom odnosno sa njegovim CLI alatima. Druge dvije distribucije koje će biti dostupne su Fedora i OpenSuse.

GARR, Italy’s leading research and education network consortium, manages a fully owned fibre optic network of 15,000 Km dedicated to Italian Research and Education and offers high performance connectivity and advanced services to around 4 million users and over 1,200 research institutes, universities, research hospitals, cultural institutions, libraries, museums and schools.

It has created a countrywide Federated OpenStack cloud using Ubuntu OpenStack and Canonical’s model driven operations tools, MAAS and Juju. Based on a federated architecture design that allows institutions to contribute and share resources over multiple cloud regions, GARR has been able to overcome the limitations of the basic OpenStack software in order to deal with multiple tenancy, partitioning and limiting the use of resources by automating the whole deployment process.

GARR cloud infrastructure consists of data centres in 5 different locations and has deployed Ubuntu OpenStack, the most widely used OpenStack deployment in production clouds in the world today. At the recent annual workshop GARR 2017, GARR demonstrated how they can stand up a cloud remotely in 20 minutes and automate all the maintenance with Juju and by using MAAS and Juju, GARR has achieved levels of efficiency more commonly seen in the large data centres of Google and AWS.

GARR, talijanski istraživački i obrazovni konzorcij koristi Ubuntu OpenStack i Canonicalove alate MAAS i Juju za upravljanje višestrukim cloudovima.

Ubuntu X-Swat repository sa updateanim verzijama X.org drivera i drugih dijelova grafičkog sustava, repository je poluslužbeni slično kao i Nvidia PPA repository pa bi trebao dobro raditi.

The public beta release of build.snapcraft.io is now open!

build.snapcraft.io is an easy and free to use platform for publishing your software to the tens of millions of machines running Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, OpenSuSE, Arch, Gentoo, Yocto and others. whichever Operating System they’re running, the behaviour of your app is going to be the exact same… from installation to upgrade, irrespective of what versions of libraries are (or will be) installed on the computer, cloud instance, or IoT device.

All it takes to get started is a few clicks and a simple config file added to your GitHub repo. Your application will start building on the snapcraft.io infrastructure automatically, across ARM32 and AMD64 architectures. With every new commit a build will be triggered.

Once built, your application will be in held in the edge channel, meaning it’s available for you, your Continuous Integration System and any of your beta testers to test at will. When you think that your application is ready for wider distribution, with one single command you’ll promote it to being a stable build.

This is where snaps come in handy as your users will automatically get the update. And because these updates are transactional, you will have the peace of mind in knowing what used to be a bad update now just means automatically rolling back to a known-good state.

Nova tema za Gnome 3 koja vjerno kopira izgleda Unityja, sada uz United temu još trebamo kvalitetan global menu extension za Gnome, vidi se po ovim temama i konfiguracijama Gnomea da je Unity itekako popularan desktop kada toliko ljudi želi kopirati njegov look and feel sa Gnomeom 3 koji će postati default u slijedećem Ubuntuu.
